We Added Grape Seed Oil to Skinhug. Here's Why.

We added grape seed oil to Skinhug following Thai FDA guidance. It makes the formula lighter, easier to spread, and better for baby skin in Thailand's climate. Full story here.

Why we changed the Skinhug formula from 7 to 8 ingredients

You might notice something new on the ingredient label: Grape Seed Oil.

Before you worry — the oil in your hands is still the same idea you know. Clean, gentle, baby-safe from birth, and good enough for mama's skin too. We didn't change the principle of the formula. We made one addition that makes it lighter, easier to spread, and better suited to baby skin in Thailand's climate.

Here's exactly what happened and why.

What Thai FDA told us about our baby oil formula

When we registered Skinhug with the Thai FDA, their chemists reviewed the formula in detail. Their feedback was specific: your oils are good, but for daily use on baby skin in Thailand's climate, we recommend adding grape seed oil.

Their reasons:

  • To strengthen the skin barrier through higher linoleic acid content
  • To reduce transepidermal water loss
  • To make the texture lighter and more suitable for babies in tropical weather

In simple terms: the formula was good but a bit rich. Add one light, barrier-loving oil to balance it for daily baby use in Thai heat.

Why we listened instead of pushing back

We could have argued. Instead we listened. Thai FDA chemists see hundreds of baby products registered each year. They understand what works on baby skin in this specific climate. And honestly, their suggestion matched what some early users had told us: "I love it but sometimes I need a little more product for it to spread easily."

So we added grape seed oil.

What grape seed oil does for baby skin

High linoleic acid content for barrier support

Grape seed oil is naturally very rich in linoleic acid, a fatty acid that helps strengthen the skin barrier and reduce moisture loss. Baby skin is thinner and loses water faster than adult skin. A linoleic-rich oil provides extra reinforcement for that delicate barrier, especially for eczema-prone skin.

Lightweight texture for Thai climate

Grape seed oil is thin, fast-absorbing, and non-sticky. In the Skinhug formula, it helps the richer oils spread more easily with less product. If you ever needed more product than expected for a full baby massage, you'll notice the difference immediately.

Formula balance and stability

Every oil blend has a lipid profile — how the different fatty acids work together. Thai FDA wanted a more balanced profile for long-term everyday use on baby skin. Grape seed oil rounds out that balance without changing the clean, fragrance-free, preservative-free foundation of Skinhug.

What actually changed vs what stayed the same

What changed

  • Ingredient count: 7 plant oils to 8 plant oils
  • Grape seed oil added as the third ingredient
  • Texture: slightly lighter and easier to spread
  • Color: still soft green, possibly very slightly brighter

What stayed exactly the same

  • Fragrance-free
  • No preservatives
  • No dyes or colorants
  • 0+ months safe
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding safe
  • Family safe for everyone

Honest answers to the questions you're probably asking

Did you change it to reduce costs?

No. We followed Thai FDA guidance to improve the formula for baby skin. The change benefits your baby, not our margins.

Will my baby's skin react differently to the new formula?

If anything, the formula is now gentler and more baby-skin-appropriate, thanks to the added linoleic acid and lighter texture. As with any product, if your child has very sensitive skin, do a small patch test first.

What about older packaging that says "7 pure ingredients"?

We're updating all materials to reflect 8 ingredients. The principle is exactly the same: every ingredient earns its place, nothing is added without a clear reason.

We're almost ready to hug your skin.

If you like clean, calm, simple care for your whole family, Skinhug is made for you.
